Kristy Puchko Nerdist Pork Pie offers a wondrous road trip comedy full of humor and heart, with a healthy dash of Kiwi sass. Jul 27, 2017 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald I can't say there's any more to it than colour, movement and an abundance of good humour but it's enough to persuade you to suspend disbelief when required -- which is much of the time. Rated: 3.5/5 May 10, 2017 Full Review Eddie Cockrell Variety Hello, "Pork Pie." Mar 9, 2017 Full Review Kate Rodger Newshub (NZ) Pork Pie packs enough fun and kinetic energy to make it across the finish line. Rated: 3/5 Sep 12, 2019 Full Review CJ Johnson Film Mafia Matt Murphy honours father Geoff Murphy's 1980 original - a milestone in New Zealand cinema - with loving care, identifying its mass appeal, correctly, not so much as being hysterically funny as being absolutely stuffed full of heart. Rated: 3/5 May 15, 2017 Full Review Vicky Roach Daily Telegraph (Australia) Murphy does an impressive job of pulling all the narrative strands together for the climactic end sequence, combining a tangible sense of threat with a credible, feel-good resolution. Audience Member Great fun, heartwarming and uniquely Kiwi. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Matt Murphy's remake of dad Geoff's 1981 kiwi road trip comedy, Goodbye Pork Pie. It's so long since I watched the original that I can't compare the two films, but judged on it's own merits Pork Pie holds up well. I wasn't totally on board for the first half of the film, but it builds up to a convincing emotional climax thanks to Dean O'Gorman's portrayal of lovesick loser Jon. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member An imaginative, vivid and heart-warming version of the original, without the outdated 80s misogyny. SO MUCH FUN! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review l g sweet, sweet movie. lack of CGI and trick shots was the result of budget limitations, or, a stroke of genius. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Meh, not very good really. Very poor character development is just one of the issues with this movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member If this was a Holywood movie, it will definitely have been a hit. This has been 100minutes of pure unadulterated fun. I'm so pissed to have watched this in Nigeria without paying a dime. I'd love to pay because it's fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
