Audience Member Documentary about the banning of the Mexican-American Studies program at Tucson, Arizona's Unified School District. The film introduces students in the program whose academic performance improved as a result of exposure to classes that identified with ethnic history and cultural topics relevant to student body. These same students then participate in an effort to discuss the merits of the program with local & state legislators in an effort to prevent the elimination of the program. We are also introduced to the designers of HB2281 that sought to create a bill specifically targeting the school program with the consequence of denied funding for any school district that continued the ethnic studies program.
