Kip Mooney College Movie Review Brief but covers all it needs to. Rated: B Aug 28, 2021 Full Review Josiah Teal Film Threat At times, the movie does go down some rabbit holes, and it is definitely for a niche audience. However, if you grew up on the games or love witnessing the progression of skateboarding, this is a documentary worthy of the high scores it will inspire. Rated: 8.5/10 Feb 20, 2021 Full Review Jennifer Heaton Alternative Lens Pretending I'm a Superman ends up feeling like a few disposable DVD featurettes stapled together. Rated: 5.5/10 Jan 15, 2021 Full Review Matthew Pejkovic Matt's Movie Reviews Is as much a history lesson in the world of skateboarding, as it is an example of marketing ingenuity. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 13, 2020 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness Ludvig Gür explores the cultural impact of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series ... making it clear that this single game, the first installment in the series, single-handedly changed the course of pop culture forever. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 8, 2020 Full Review Carey-Ann Pawsey Orca Sound Story of the game, but also of Tony Hawk himself. His rise was rather meteoric and two decades later is still the biggest name in skateboarding. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Aaron S It's really great. It's inspirational, thoroughly enjoyable, and gratifying. THPS 2 is my favorite game ever made, and as someone who plays a ton of games, that's not a flippantly made statement. So anything about this franchise I'm going to enjoy. What this doc isn't though is Until the Wheels Fall Off - the skateboarding doc centered on Tony's life and skating culture that came out in 2022. That doc is eye opening and deeply felt. Pretending is very breezy and light on the actual details of creating the video games. It's more of a retrospective than anything else which is completely fine, but it leaves a tiny bit to be desired by comparison for two docs that are a little samey. I would've liked a little more of a deep dive into the game creation but for what this is, it is still very good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/26/23 Full Review dave d I am not a skateboarder, but this documentary on the origin of Skateboarding video games told me all I needed to know and more. One thing that stands out is how welcoming, accepting and grateful skateboarders are. It certainly seems like a nice group of people, albeit not very diverse! It's fine and if you're into docs, it flies by at just over an hour. Tony Hawk is living his best life! Final Score: 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie captures the heart and soul of what the Tony Hawk series did for skateboarding and everyone who has played the game.
