      Critics Consensus

Prisoner's Daughter has an outstanding cast, but they're overwhelmed by a blandly busy story that offers few surprises.

Bruce D This was an excellent movie of an individual who corrected his behavior and wanted to change. He made up for the time he missed with his family. Awesome movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/23 Full Review Giorgio G It's somewhat of a moving story, though nothing too special. What shocked me was realizing the decline of Kate Beckinsale's visuals. For decades she was kind of a sex symbol, but in this movie she looks like any simple American house wife. And it's not only the makeup and attire, which obviously had to be fitting her paper in this movie, but her face has actually completely lost her sexappeal. It's absolutely lackluster. That's a real shame! Nevertheless she does a decent job as the frustrated mother and Brian Cox is generally good anyway. So, if you are into drama, you might enjoy it. 5/10 points. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Ken B The plot of this film seemed rather tired and it was predictable from beginning to end. Not one scene left anything to the imagination, so it lost a few points there for me. That being said, performances were decent, so that made it a bit easier to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Lloyd S Not that interesting and gives the wrong message. Never forgive people that hurt you, especially parents. The old man sent his daughter's ex to jail for murder instead of get him arrested for abduction. He was a drug addict with mental disorder. In the end the old man(Max) never changed, he died as the bad person as he was. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Audience Member This drama which portrays a daughter reconnecting with her Dad after 12 years is amazing, acting is alright and you can feel emotions between them. Christopher Convery acting could be better but I do like him as child actor cause he does alright films and this one yeah you can feel him as outsider from school and has really no friends except his grandfather which he gets know really well in the movie. This drama doesn’t really take anything new from others except two main leads have way of giving you real understanding of the relationship. All in all it is a good movie not an Oscar worthy one and it does come out like an early “Lifetime” movie but definitely worth a watch. I give a A-👍🏽👍🏽 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Trevor M This was a great movie with strong performances from all of the actors. Sure it was a liitle predictable, but the story and characters were believable. Don't trust the critic reviews on this one...watch it yourself! Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It hits these melodramatic beats that seem at odds with Catherine Hardwicke's naturalistic style. Jul 21, 2023 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) If there’s one reason to see Prisoner’s Daughter, it’s Kate Beckinsale. Rated: 3/5 Jul 6, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Catherine Hardwicke’s sharply drawn, slow-simmer domestic drama Prisoner’s Daughter has the cool vibe of an indie film from a generation ago, from the lived-in look of the Vegas sets to the authentic performances of the terrific cast. Rated: 3/4 Jul 5, 2023 Full Review Prabhjot Bains Tilt Magazine A family drama that lacks a fundamental understanding of drama. Nov 2, 2023 Full Review Mark Jackson Epoch Times It might be tempting for other actors of Beckinsale's stature to phone in a performance here, due to the lower profile of this film, but her character prep-work is tangible. Some of her finest work ever. Rated: 3/5 Aug 1, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A clunky dysfunctional family drama that should have been left in the can.
