      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Given its flatly descriptive title and live-action Disney pedigree, Prom is more nuanced and less cynical -- but also just as corny and cliched -- as you might expect.

StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 43 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Several different teens prepare for the senior prom. This film suffers from too much going on and if the script had focused on half of the story given it may have been a better film. The script is also on the predictable side. This movie also had a Disney channel movie feel to it, instead of a theatrical release. The acting isn't bad, but no real standouts either. If you're in the mood for a mindless tween drama then this movie fits the bill, otherwise skip it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review r 9 Pretty typical and brings nothing new to these sorta films, but it still has more to it than I was expecting. I had predicted it was going to be a full-on forced comedy and cringe teen romance, but it actually has a little bit more substance to it. Added to the fact that none of the cast irritated or annoyed me, which is always a positive. You can guess what's coming up from minute one, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it - albeit to a minor degree. Aimee Teegarden (Nova) and Thomas McDonell (Jesse) are a decent enough pairing, while the characters of Danielle Campbell (Simone) and Joe Adler (Rolo) are more interesting than they seemed to be early on. Dean Norris, midway through 'Breaking Bad' at this point in his career, also appears. 'Prom' may have absolutely nothing special about it and is very plain, but I'd very much be lying if I said I disliked it to be honest. It's passable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review yash b "Prom" is a pretty harmless movie that I think will be thoroughly enjoyed by its target audience, which is definitely younger people. I think the movie did an okay job presenting its storylines, even though every character is some kind of stereotype. The characters that I related to most aren't given the most screen time, so personally, the characters given the most focus didn't resonate with me. Still, I thought the conflicts the characters faced were pretty genuine and that's why the movie ends up being watchable. I do feel a PG-rated high school movie is pretty limited in what topics it can get into and I feel the movie could have benefitted from edgier storylines. Most of the storylines aren't far from something you'd see on the Disney Channel so it didn't feel like I was watching something that was meant to be theatrically released. In the end, its a cute movie that I found a decent amount of enjoyment in, and I think that counts for something considering it was probably not made for my age group. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Aimed at the tween audience who will love it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Too many storylines all of which are contrived and unbelivable Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Rated: 2/5 Jun 3, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Romance flowering or being dashed, a school where no one appears to be doing any coherent work and a Prom which brings the whole messy thing towards its feelgood finish.
