Caryn James New York Times Promised Land tries hard to win you over but finally wears you down with its sincerity. Rated: 3/5 Oct 17, 2012 Full Review Time Out The film has a lot going for it though, with its beautiful snowy landscapes, empty highways, and committed playing from the cast. Oct 17, 2012 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Many scenes are extended to the point that all potential dramatic tension is drained out of them. Oct 17, 2012 Full Review Film4 A smart and well constructed drama. Oct 17, 2012 Full Review TV Guide The photography of the mountains, plains, and huge Western skies is gorgeous, and Hoffman's use of the camera is occasionally dazzling. Audience Member Promised Land showed alot of promise due to the strong cast; who would have fared better with a stronger script. Strong performances from Ryan in a breakout role and Sutherland; who conveys alot of sympathy as the well meaning but over his head Senator More subtle performances were given from Pollan and Gedrick, who needed better material. Beatiful soundtrack and exterior filming make this movie enjoyable but could have been so much more. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Small town circle of friends take diverging paths that lead back to Ashville with tragic results. A slice of Americana that never truly achieves its aim. Familiar cast, however, with some characters of interest. Filmed with assistance of the Sundance Film Festival with Robert Redford credited as executive producer. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Young adults begin to realize the American dream was maybe not all it was made out to be. Character development a strength here but shootout ending seemed a bit unnecessary. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member wandering back to late 80´s when i watch this movie. How Meg Ryan was Awesome in this role, and she was worth through all that movie. Effervescence acting is all there is on Meg Ryan! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member (***): This film is depressing, but I still found myself interested with it as it went along. Meg Ryan is also quite good here. Overall, a marginal thumbs up. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
