Critics Consensus

For all its rough edges and occasionally awkward execution, Propeller One-Way Night Coach conveys a genuine sense of wonder and affection for its characters even when its idiosyncratic vision proves more compelling than its filmmaking.

But then it turned out to be a sweet, delightfully eccentric film: an earnest, Mad Men-colourful, charming adaptation of Travolta’s own same-titled children’s book. Go to Full Review

A film that, in its nimble 61-minute runtime, manages to traverse the massive emotional scope of life and death without breaking a sweat. Go to Full Review

“Propeller One-Way Night Coach” tells a simple story, but with such detail and nuance that we come away feeling that we really understand these people and their times. Go to Full Review

A heartfelt and deeply personal love letter to childhood and aviation. While its nostalgia often overwhelms the storytelling, Travolta's directorial debut offers a sincere glimpse into the memories that shaped a Hollywood icon. Go to Full Review

The production design provides a nice back-in-time quality but Travolta is unwilling to root around a bit in the central mother/son relationship leaving the barely-an-hour effort feel like a retro travelogue ride at Disney. Go to Full Review

Ken B @MrBelmont 23h The story didn’t quite take the direction (or any direction, really) that I was hoping for. But I certainly can appreciate it for the passion project that this seemed to be. The early 1960’s was captured well in the exterior shots of the airport as well as inside the airport. See more Ohad R @RT21612627 1d This is a feel-good movie. It has a good sound track, tasteful design, and delightful acting. If you want to leave the world and its troubles behind for hour, this is your movie. It is the 60s, a time when air-travel was a luxury, and people smoked and drank cocktails on flights. The main character is a boy (maybe 10?) who is going on his first flight. The other important character is his mother, an aspiring actress. They, and the people they meet on their journey, are what makes the movie. See more Cat M @RT61195323 Jun 19 This is a 61 minute infomercial for TWA. There are so many disturbing things in this commercial. They used a German girl as a stewardess who "escaped the holocaust." The mother in the movie only finds her interesting because she was in the holocaust and survived. It has nothing to do with the 61 minute commercial. The fact that john speaks for the little boy as a narrator, talking about how sexy and beautiful Ella is. That’s slightly disturbing. There was no beginning middle or end. Anyone who claims that this infomercial is excellent, is absolutely lying. I was bored to tears 2 1/2 minutes in. If I could rate this a zero I would. Travolta needs to get out of the spotlight and chill with his ego, and maybe concentrate on getting his daughter a career, and also getting his other son Ben, out of his bedroom in Ocala. See more Rene D. @RT38782646 Jun 19 Warm, nostalgic fun. Older folks like me might enjoy the retro experience more than some younger folks would. I'm fine with that! See more Mike W. @mikewebb95 Jun 17 Beyond the retro aesthetic in its sets and costumes, John Travolta’s 61-minute feature directorial debut (adapted from his own children's novel) is amateurish, saccharine, and downright boring. Even its tenderness doesn't save it from a bland script, flat direction, corny narration, wooden acting, and repetitive humor. I yearn for filmmakers to bring back playful and poignant films made for children like The Red Balloon. But this was a real letdown. See more Koi P @hopep Jun 16 Reminiscent of A Christmas Story.
