      Critics Consensus

Prophet's Prey finds documentarian Amy Berg striking again at evil masquerading as righteousness -- and, as she did with Deliver Us from Evil, hitting her targets with impressive precision.

Joel C Another disgusting story of people using the power of God to exploit others. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/21 Full Review Audience Member Its sad that people seem to think they need other humans to lead them spiritually. NO ONE NEEDS THAT. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The story needed to be told and Warren Jeffs is a monster. But his followers were so stupid and everyone's motivation was so twisted that I can't help but think this should have been the main topic of this documentary. It felt overly long and all the blame was pointed solely on Warren Jeffs' direction while it is clear everyone there was to blame. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a really well done and interesting documentary for those interested in the subject matter. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Frances H Truly terrifying and horrifying that the monster of perversity and selfishness who is Warren Jeffs gets away with holding 100,00 people in the grip of his brain washing that he cloaks in supposed sanctity. This really proves how gullible and sheeplike people can be. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/16 Full Review Audience Member Wow, what an amazing story. For me no clear demarcation between good vs. evil or right from wrong. Too easy to say William Jeffs is simply a perverted pedophile as he is depicted. The emotional control and power he and his doctrine have over his faithful is incredible as is the fact that so many thousands allow themselves to be dominated and controlled in such a manner. William Jeffs himself is eerily otherworldly. Could go on for hours regarding all the issues involved here. An amazing story. Jason Bailey Flavorwire The sadness and hopelessness of the story becomes overwhelming. May 30, 2016 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Berg has a secret weapon in the sermons Jeffs recorded for his flock: his bland, droning voice epitomizes the banality of evil. Oct 1, 2015 Full Review Kerry Lengel Arizona Republic A chilling portrait of a megalomaniac. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 1, 2015 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy What results is a riveting documentary, an unintentional horror film that exposes what truly goes on behind the doors of one of the world's most evasive religious sects. Nov 9, 2018 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com What's shocking about the film, which is as effective in its way as HBO's Scientology expose, Going Clear is how widespread his ugly cult still is. Oct 13, 2015 Full Review Christopher Lawrence Las Vegas Review-Journal Just in time for Halloween, Showtime is unleashing one of the creepiest, most depraved characters you'll ever see on television: Warren Steed Jeffs.
