Audience Member I've loved what Mickey Keating is doing since the day one, I've seen all of his works except for "Ritual", can't find that one anywhere. As an (using cliche words) aspiring filmmaker I relate to Mickeys ever changing style, writing themes, low-budget effectiveness and a filmmakers independce that can be truly felt. Sadly, it took some time for me to catch up with "Psychopaths", but here we are. Madness, mayhem, darkness, neo-noir, also just neon and just noir - "Psychopaths" is an effortful & mean spirited art-house horror movie, full with beautiful shots, psychadelic imagery, murder and a handful of songs that successfully add to the atmosphere. I read in some review the acting's weak, but I oppose to that, I thought the characters & the performances completely justified the very name of the movie. For all the horror buffs there's a bonus in a form of a few seen names and faces. I'm always happy to see Larry Fessenden getting on screen from behind the camera, even if for just a few scenes. What I can't ignore or deny is the absence of plot, purpose and any kind of structure, the latter of which didn't matter to me much. Being devoid of a more substantial storyline, the 80 minute runtime is quite stretched out & I believe a lot of viewers will be bored by the pacing issues. However, I liked the directors self-awareness at the end, told in two lines by the narrator near the end. I won't tell, because You should see it yourself. Everyone who knows me knows I hold dear the kind of horror movies which can be described as arthouse / experimental / surreal / weird and so on and so forth - "Psychopaths" fit the bill well. I recommend this one to those who relate to the aforementioned taste, because "Psychopaths" is a movie for very specific audiences. My (intendedly objective) rating: 5/10. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review troy k You can skip this crap, I can't remember who told me this was good, but you suck! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Ashley Bell: Best actress in the world. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Not completely terrible, it has a few fresh ideas. the framing is decent as well as the performances, but it doesn't have much of a narrative. It feels more like a collection of art films tossed together disjointedly. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting premise, that's well made, but poorly edited. Half the movie I spent trying to figure out what was going on, whether certain parts were really happening or not, and if and how they connect. I was just trying to play catch-up for the majority of it. There's some cool sequences in it though... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nick Allen RogerEbert.com Unless the ambition of Psychopaths is to motivate Michael Haneke to remake Funny Games for a second time, its efforts are gravely misplaced. Rated: 1/4 Dec 1, 2017 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Well-intentioned but tedious. Nov 30, 2017 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle None more so than another standout performance from [Ashley] Bell as a Fifties-obsessed fractured mind, who flips from nightclub chanteuse, to Donna Reed homemaker, to carving knife slasher in the blink of an eye. Rated: 3/5 Nov 30, 2017 Full Review Joey Keogh Wicked Horror The thing needs more moments of quiet, more time to ruminate and stew in its own filth. It doesn't help that Phillips' narration is pretty much constant and the score is hugely grating. Rated: 4/10 Oct 1, 2019 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Psychopaths, if anything, is an energetic exercise in style. Also hard to deny Keating is making a point about senseless violence. Rated: 4/5 May 1, 2019 Full Review Adam Patterson Film Pulse Much of the film feels like a demo reel containing lots of violence, but very little substance to back it up.
