Critics Consensus

Guzmán brings heat to Puerto Ricans in Paris, but ultimately this formulaic fish-out-of-water buddy caper misfires.

Yes, it's predictable. Of course, it follows a formula. But damn if this isn't Guzman's show. Go to Full Review

It's charming. It's funny. Go to Full Review

Luis Guzman is an instantly recognizable character actor who deserves his shot at being the face of a film. It's just unfortunate that the film turns out to be the lethargic and rarely funny fish-out-of-American-water comedy Puerto Ricans in Paris. Go to Full Review

No harm, no foul. It didn't go in the direction I thought it would, it wasn't as funny as I wanted it to be. But I'm not angry about it. Go to Full Review

There were parts I actually did laugh at. But Garcia is a terrible actor, and there's no way around that... Go to Full Review

While the detective duo's plans to cruise on charm may backfire at times, the same can't be said for the film which, given the room to breathe, is quite the pleasant diversion. Go to Full Review

Enid G 05/04/2021 In these days being at home a lot I chose this movie to be on my bucket list. I thought is was funny and different from the rest of the police movies and that's why I gave it this high rating. See more 02/27/2021 I was expecting this movie to be a lot funnier than what it was. It does have a few laughs but it’s pretty forgettable. For two detectives trying to locate a stolen purse the movie is very lack of any action. The acting isn’t the greatest and the ending comes off rolling eyes predictable. Definitely not the laugh fest I was hoping for. See more 03/04/2020 I think this one was underrated. Good comedy, not badly written. I'm a fan of Luis Guzman (check out The Limey) but he's almost always a wingman/supporting actor. He gets to shine in this one. Edwin Boothe (the leading American actor of the 19th century and, interestingly, cousin to John Wilkes Boothe) on his death bed was asked "is dying hard" to which he replied (paraphrasing) "no, dying is easy...comedy: comedy is hard". So it's hard for actors to go from drama to comedy. Guzman does it pretty well in this. See more 03/10/2019 Very funny movie! Got to see this.. See more Frances H 07/31/2017 Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but far from the best. I watched it because I like Luis Guzman, but he did not have much of a role to sink his teeth in here. See more 03/25/2017 Funny idea that they didn't really capitalize on; would've liked them to explore the culture clashes a bit more See more Read all reviews
