isla s This is an enjoyable enough film - its not a war film or an especially dramatic film but its got some amusing moments and has a slight feel of Catch 20 about it. Its got some nice characters but its just not the kind of film that stays in my mind for long. An ok film but not much more, I wouldn't expressly recommend it as such, no. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The sibling chemistry is insane. It was bit weird how they communicated with each other, but I liked it lmaooo. They were real life couple after all Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It was ok overall, not terribly exciting and with few laughs in this British comedy of boyish pranks in the military Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Solomon M This film is the sequel to John Boorman's Hope and Glory where as Billy is a young draftee in the Royal Army during the Korean War and sees his nation changing as The Princess of Wales Elizabeth marries Prince Phillip of Macedonia and Britain loses ground as the Empire begins to diminish. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/24/19 Full Review Audience Member Such a British film. fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/18 Full Review Audience Member Having loved Hope and Glory I was a bit hesitant going into this film. Much to my surprise it was an interesting story with the same mix of laughs and charm balanced with some gut punching all too familiar moments. Donald Clarke Irish Times It showcases Boorman's great humanity, but (like Hope and Glory, for that matter) it is almost entirely free of the mild derangement that characterises his best work. Rated: 3/5 Jun 13, 2015 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) This is a deeply personal film which also stands as an intriguing record of a period not often revisited in film -- that drab period postwar and pre-Suez in which the country itself, like the flailing young hero Rohan, is struggling to define itself. Jun 11, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Everything you'd expect from distinctive film-maker John Boorman: a heartfelt story told in arresting visual tones through a melange of conflicting accents and strangely theatrical staging. Rated: 3/5 Jun 7, 2015 Full Review Lyric Waiwiri-Smith Stuff.co.nz While you may not have any strong thoughts or feelings about the Queen, feeling the intimacy of where the late Monarch spent the private moments of her life is at once peaceful and beautiful... Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema A wild picture with its parts running willy-nilly in every possible direction. Rated: 2/5 Oct 1, 2021 Full Review Alberto Abuín Espinof Life and cinema united in the mind of the protagonist, providing really surreal episodes in the barracks, undoubtedly the most interesting of the film.
