bet m When a story can put tears in your eyes while you're smiling it's a winner! While there are moments of sadness, this isn't a sad story. It's a story of resilience, of human kindness, and this wonderful personality - Queen Mimi. Hats off to all the kind people, but especially Stan. You did what most people wouldn't do and you're acts of kindness were the biggest of all. Many business owners would not have allowed that and it's so special that for all those years you listened to your heart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I was frustrated by the end. No clear answer as to why the family connection was broken so long ago. Why did she choose to be homeless? How was she left penniless after a divorce? I didn't understand the attraction movie stars had to her either. I did not find her a particularly interesting person. The hero of this story was the owner of the laundromat, Stan Fox, in my opinion. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this documentary! I can not help but think of the thousands who are out there on the streets. Perhaps with no one to love them, little food or shelter. It is gut wrenching to know folks suffer as they do. It was an inspiring film. Mimi was inspiring and at the same time deeply human and flawed as we all are. I wish Mimi the very best in her life and all the other countless Mimi's in the world. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved watching this documentary. It's one of those films that make you think, but not too hard - just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. I think one doesn't have to wonder further than the liquor bottle to know why she ended up on the streets, but I do understand how that can happen as I have a sister-in-law that did the exact same thing. We have no idea if she's alive or dead to this day and she NEVER reaches out to find out if her daughter is alive, dead or whatever. Mimi's obviously an alcoholic that either can't or chooses not to become sober. I see this was filmed a couple of years ago and wonder where she is now; still alive; etc. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Mimi just showed us how to make the best out of life, with her spirit and love. A must see film when you think life is hard... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very sweet, genuine documentary. Watch it. Kristen Lopez Spectrum Culture Queen Mimi is a comforting balm for the soul. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter It succeeds on putting a very human face on the dire problem, but the one it's selected is hardly emblematic. May 17, 2016 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times Rokah gradually exhumes the hardship of surviving the streets of Los Angeles for four decades and the associated stigma and shame that have prevented Haist from reaching out to family. May 12, 2016 Full Review Funmi Sunmonu Add This To Your List It was really interesting. The documentary's really sweet... Mimi herself is adorable and really funny to watch. Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Anthony Salveggi Paste Magazine It's right that the respectful Queen Mimi lives up to its name doesn't condescend to its regal subject. Filmed over five years, it allows her to be a friendly guide through her life.
