Roger (Peter Fonda), his friend Frank (Warren Oates), and their wives (Lara Parker, Loretta Swit) are heading from San Antonio to the wilderness of rural Texas for some off-road motocross. What they find instead is a Satanic cult sacrifice, and they are unfortunate enough to be caught observing the ritual. Naturally, this doesn't sit too well with the cult members. Now Roger and Frank are on the run from what is apparently a very sizable Texan Satanist community.

Race With The Devil has problems getting over the flat, TV-style direction by Cleopatra Jones director Jack Starrett, but it gets by on engaging drive-in goofiness, even if it's tough to swallow the idea that mid-'70s Texas swarmed with Satanists.

Ignore any negative comments on this film - it’s one of the best-ever horror/action/thrillers. All the characters’ weaknesses and ignorance mesh perfectly with the implicit overview of a world and system ruled and organised by evil intent and in the face of which we find ourselves poorly informed and all-but helpless. In 2024, it’s all proving to be true! That’s proper horror!

Pure 70's fun flick. As a fan of TV's Dark Shadows, I originally watched this for Lara Parker, who played Angelique the witch on the show. This movie is screaming for a remake. Imagine how they can make that sacrificial coven out in the middle of nowhere look today!

Synopsis
