r 9 Interesting subject matter, though as a film I found 'Rachida' a bit flat. Ibtissem Djouadi leads the cast well enough, though I wasn't invested in any of the characters onscreen. The story also felt a tad repetitive and lacking in progression. The pacing is fine, yet due to the aforementioned it does a drag in a few places - though the short 93 minute run time helps in that regard. Not a bad film one bit, but it just isn't one that I clicked with. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A very dark look at the culture of Algeria during a time of great upheaval and seemingly random violence that this viewer found hard to understand. Rachida, played by the hauntingly beautiful Ibtissem Djouadi, is traumatized by an attack in her hometown of Algiers and flees to a small country village for refuge, with her mother. But even there, the threat of violence plagues her every move. An excellent look at the reality of life in a virtual war zone, but one in which one's enemies are not clearly delineated. There is something illogical to western minds about a culture that views kidnapping and rape as the fault of the victim, that this viewer found infuriating. But the Algerian scenery was austerely beautiful, the tension was steadily maintained, and the script, while confusing at times, moved the story inexorably forward. Courage is the ability to go on when faced with terrifying circumstances and, in that, Rachida shows remarkable courage. Ultimately, the film became a testament to hope in the face of terror. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Ein Schauplatz alleine macht noch keine Geschichte. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Again this is another movie based in Algeria on similar BS, random killings, rape and abductions by terrorists and the cruelty unleashed on women there. Rachida is a schoolteacher who is simply fed up with all the atrocities committed on her and the other civillian people, stands up and continues to live and defy the perpetrators. Touching film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This was an incredibly disturbing, but very moving film. The acting was decent all around, great writing and social commentary:) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Moving. Amazing direction, adorable script (let's ONLY talk in sayings, k?) However, I was not thrilled by the lead's performance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
