After stable owner Tom Martin (Harry Carey) and his daughter, Ruth (Ann Dvorak), refuse to throw a race in exchange for a bribe, a rival stable's dastardly tactics on the racecourse lead to a career-ending injury for their beloved horse, Pepper Mary. Determined to vindicate her wounded steed, Ruth begins training Pepper Mary's offspring, Katydid.
