      Critics Consensus

Radioactive's flawed script and counterproductive storytelling choices are offset by Rosamund Pike's central performance in a sincere tribute to a brilliant scientific mind.

Dave This film is fine, and pretty much what I expected. I think it could have been really special with some different casting and more imagination. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Counselingover C Good movie that depicts how humanity will turn any discoveries meant for good into a tool for dominance and destruction. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Fong Kok Hoong F Adapted from American artist and writer Lauren Redniss' graphic novel Radioactive: Marie and Pierre Curie, A Tale of Love and Fallout and by Marjane Satrapi, this biography of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel prize and first person to win twice in two scientific fields, radiates with hypnotic cinematography and score from a debilitated core of storytelling. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Johann D. M This biographical drama is about the incredible life of Marie Sklodowska-Curie and her Nobel Prize-winning work with previously unknown radioactive elements that changed the world both in medicine and warfare. Even though the storytelling style is not the most adequate choice for this film and its historical accuracy is excessively questionable for its alterations for dramatic effect, the best thing about it is Rosamund Pike's portrayal of the Polish scientist, whom she thoroughly understands and will keep the viewer engaged. But ultimately, it feels like a disjointed film with sequences that partly and unjustly blame Mme. Curie for her discoveries. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Dario L Great movie, the story is set-up so you always want to see what's coming next, and even though you don't learn everything about Marie Curie, it explain enough of her so that you want to learn more about her life after the movie. Rosamund Pike is spectacular in her role (as always?). Liked it very much, a very beautiful, romanticized yet entertaining movie! Udita Jhunjhunwala Scroll.in Rosamund Pike fiercely embraces the material and her character's complexities. Jul 3, 2021 Full Review David Stratton The Australian ...the strangely gloomy approach, and Pike's withdrawn performance, are rather alienating. Garson's Mme Curie might have been less accurate, but she was a more engaging character. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 10, 2020 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Just because a person's accomplishments are great, it doesn't follow that a movie about their life and achievements will be equally as compelling. Rated: 2/4 Jul 29, 2020 Full Review Nadine Whitney Mr. Movie's Film Blog Satrapi’s ambition in Radioactive is to move beyond a generic biographical story, yet it so often falls back into the very tropes it was hoping to avoid. Rated: 2/5 Sep 17, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Radioactive boasts an absolutely outstanding Rosamund Pike as the great Marie Curie, but Marjane Satrapi fails to deliver a well-structured narrative, rushing through the scientist’s groundbreaking discoveries and experiments or ignoring them altogether. Rated: C+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Radioactive” did what I want biopics to do, and with a performer like Rosamund Pike doing this level of work, it’s hard not to be impressed.
