      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Railroad Tigers throws a few sparks hearkening back to Jackie Chan's glory days as an action comedy star, but they're smothered by an unfocused story and jarring shifts in tone.

Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) These shifts in tone could have been interesting if deliberately used to throw us off balance, but Sheng seems to be hoping we won't notice anything amiss. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 6, 2017 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com With little to grab onto-and despite all that it offers-Railroad Tigers is far slower than a goofy action movie that mostly takes place on a locomotive should ever be. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 6, 2017 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times Beyond Mr. Chan's deft work here, "Railroad Tigers," directed by Ding Sheng, is kind of a mess. Rated: 3/5 Jan 11, 2020 Full Review Frank Ochieng The Critical Movie Critics These "Tigers" claw their way into a frivolous lather but whether or not Chan's latest spectacle deserves a boarding pass to enjoy the same blueprint thrills . . . well, hey . . . would you rather see the sequel "Skiptrace 2"? I rest my case . . . klee K I dont know what people were thinking, because I thought this was a wonderful film. Great balance between sweetness, comedy, and action. The main characters were perfectly cast and did a great job. The comedy was - mostly - very natural and fit the story well. The action was less young daring Jackie adding action everywhere no matter what, and more about what fit the story. Please watch this movie. It deserves a lot more of an audience. American reviewers did NOT get it right. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/22 Full Review Audience Member It depicts the real history during Japanese invasion. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The Chinese and Japan war movie. The Jackie Chan's style kung fu comedy is maintaining the level. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member excellent adventure, I enjoyed this one and the story it told Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Be advised that this film is much more bloody/morbid than most Jakie Chan movies, but then it does deal with the Japanese occupation of southern China. It feels like war-time propaganda, which detracts a bit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie. Historical comedies are some of my favorites.
