There to meet them on the train station platform are Bobbie Waterbury (Jenny Agutter, reprising her iconic role in the original film), her daughter, Annie (Sheridan Smith), and grandson Thomas (Austin Haynes), and with their help the evacuees are soon settling into their new life in the countryside. When the children discover injured American soldier Abe (KJ Aikens), hiding out in the railyard at Oakworth Station, they are thrust into a dangerous quest to assist their new friend who, like them, is a long way from home. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/29/22 Full Review Viewerlikeme Enjoyed the movie. Great acting. I liked not recognizing anyone, and the differences of Manchester vs country life being pointed out. Sad reality of racism in US army, ending hokey, but ending still made you feel better. Loved the accents of the Brits, but New Yorker didnt have a NY accent. (Perhaps from northern NY?) Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) If you love the [original] Railway Children, it's impossible not to be touched by this. Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It tends to say literally everything it thinks... A little too on the nose. Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Nell Minow RogerEbert.com Touching and beautifully produced. Rated: 3/4 Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) Morgan Matthews weaves together a solid story of the peace the children find when they are transported to a relatively safe place with the inner turmoil they feel because of all the pain caused by the war. Rated: B- Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Sean P. Means The Movie Cricket “Railway Children” is more sober-minded than most American children’s films, as it teaches kids about the horrors of war and racism. Some may find it a little dry, but it has its share of gentle charms. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 11, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Even though the sappy drama Railway Children is told from the perspectives of children during World War II, it's still no excuse for how the movie mishandles issues such as racism and military desertion. The movie's last 15 minutes are atrociously mushy. Nov 20, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
