Steve D It works ok bu there is not a lot to it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Once again master director W. Friedkin tells a story in a very unusual and disturbing way. His camera follows his characters like flies follow a piece of meat. His film is tensed thanks to an incredibly haunting soundtrack and a cast that works very well. Once again a very good piece of film making from one of the most talented film maker of the 70's & 80's era that I never get tired to revisit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member great Michael Biehn movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member the line between sanity and insanity is very blurry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The film starts off strongly enough but once it becomes about Friedkin's need to present a pro-death penalty argument in the most one sided fashion imaginable, it becomes dull and occasionally repugnant. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Guilty or insane??? You decide. Very good movie ...yet one more example of some of the sick tickets out there. Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: C- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times This is not a movie about murder so much as a movie about insanity -- as it applies to murder in modern American criminal courts. Friedkin plays with two decks and is happy to stack them both. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Rated: 2/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Gena Radcliffe The Spool Rampage isn’t a hidden gem of Friedkin's filmography. But it’s an interesting movie that poses some uneasy questions without easy answers. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Basically, in re-editing his film to make a cruder point, Friedkin took out the shadings in his characters and the better work of his leads, and in no way whatsoever did he improve the movie. He in fact systematically made it worse. Rated: B+ Apr 27, 2012 Full Review Chuck O'Leary Fantastica Daily Rated: 3/5 Jul 28, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews
