      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Perfectly mixing humor and horror, the only thing more effective than Re-Animator's gory scares are its dry, deadpan jokes.

Pauline Kael New Yorker The picture is close to being a silly ghoulie classic -- the bloodier it gets, the funnier it is. This is the same blood that flows through the Hammer horror movies; it’s theatre-of-the-absurd blood, slapstick blood. Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Paul Attanasio Washington Post Re-Animator is splatter heaven. Based on the sci-fi novel by H.P. Lovecraft, Re-Animator's gore is exceeded only by its wit. Sep 28, 2015 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times It's simply the best, funniest Grand Guignol horror picture to come along in ages. Oct 6, 2013 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Strikes a wonderful balance between horror and comedy. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 5, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast A deliciously goopy romp featuring a pitch perfect performance by Jeffrey Combs. Balances its ick factor with great FX and hearty laughs. Rated: 4/5 Jan 31, 2024 Full Review Dann Gire Chicago Daily Herald A hilariously gross 1985 indie classic... fatCalbert Late Night Grindhouse never disappoints, and neither does Herbert West. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/23 Full Review Lars N Working on what seems to be a limited budget, the team behind this film have had to use both their heads and guts to get this thing made. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/23 Full Review Cees T Awesome, albeit a little inconsistent. 7.5/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Petros T "Re-Animator" is a really enjoyable gore-fest full of zany, wicked imagery. The effects are for the most part very well done, the acting is on-point, and the story is engaging. Granted, some things are left unexplained, and the characters are rather cartoonish, but that does not hinder the enjoyment - in fact, it tends to become part of the charm. The amount and quality of grisly, gruesome gore is pretty impressive, and the occasional presence of fittingly morbid humour is the cherry on top. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/23 Full Review David W Funny and gory. A smart and hugely memorable 80's horror comedy classic which deservedly made a cult star of Jeff Combs and gave the world Dr Herbert West. An absolute late night, B movie style, splatter fest cult classic. One of my all time favourite horror comedies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Brooklyn I am 14 and dont like horror movies they are all to over the top but this looks really good I havnt watched it yet but I will give it a try this year but I do feel like this would definatly be appropriate for ages 13 and up!
