TheMovieSearch R Leprechaun’s Revenge (also known as Red Clover) is not part of the Leprechaun series that made Warwick Davis a cult horror icon. This is an entirely separate film, an attempt to tell its own cursed folklore story — and unfortunately, it fails on nearly every level. What could have been a fresh supernatural concept turns into a clumsy, tone-deaf mess that doesn’t know what it wants to be. The movie centers around a young woman who accidentally unleashes a murderous creature after plucking a red clover, triggering a curse that’s plagued her small town for generations. On paper, that setup sounds promising. There’s potential in the mythological angle, a chance to explore Irish lore in a creepy, small-town setting. But the execution is so chaotic and inconsistent that whatever intrigue the idea might’ve had vanishes almost immediately. The leprechaun itself is one of the film’s biggest downfalls. Instead of feeling otherworldly or sinister, the creature looks ridiculous — more like a malformed troll than anything resembling Irish folklore. It’s not terrifying, not funny, just awkwardly designed and poorly shot. Every time it appears, the movie loses whatever tension it was building. The screenplay doesn’t help. The dialogue feels forced, the characters make illogical decisions, and the story stumbles from one underdeveloped scene to the next. There’s no emotional core, no sense of real danger, and certainly no atmosphere. The mythology around the red clover should’ve been the film’s anchor, but it’s treated like a random gimmick rather than the backbone of the story. As for the direction, it’s just as uneven. Scenes that should build suspense drag endlessly, while moments that should shock come off flat and awkward. You can tell there was a desire to make something unique, but it’s lost under layers of confusion, weak pacing, and inconsistent tone. By the end, Leprechaun’s Revenge doesn’t deliver horror, humor, or even entertainment. It’s a dull, unfocused film that wastes its potential and leaves viewers more baffled than scared. It isn’t connected to the famous Leprechaun franchise, but even on its own, it never finds its footing. If you’re looking for a clever folklore-based horror movie, this isn’t it. Leprechaun’s Revenge is a cautionary tale of what happens when a decent concept is buried under bad writing, poor design, and direction that can’t decide what story it wants to tell. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A movie about a killer leprechaun-creature that's not related to that other killer leprechaun movie franchise- no score to settle here. There are some nice gory moments, and a lost of cheese, and by the last act the film starts to feel silly. It's a bumpy ride, and the leprechaun isn't that great, but the characters are fun enough to sit around with, and the pacing isn't too bad. Watchable enough, if you enjoy these TV movies. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A leprechaun that knows how drive a car... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Red Clover has an interesting premise: poor Irish immigrants settled in a backwoods Louisiana town and used a leprechaun they brought to bring them luck and wealth, ultimately resulting in curse being placed upon the people and their town. Now, a young girl discovers the leprechaun's resting place, and the murders start again. Unfortunately, Red Clover's interesting background in folklore does not excuse the fact that is never scary--the first scene might be okay except that it totally rips off Pan's Labyrinth--and just features the same leprechaun deaths over and over again.
