Steve D I found it all rather ridiculous. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review jones j In a single word, its strange. Its not particularly horrible, but not particularly great. The story winds as an underwhelmingly interesting mystery with a few plot twists along the way. The story itself and the characters didn't compel nor interest me. However, the scenery is incredible. The best part of this film is Miklos Rozsa's score; beautiful, suspenseful, unique, and genius, it is absolutely, without a doubt, one of the greatest film scores of all time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review s r Decided to give it a try with the Halloween season and this one was a bit dated and overblown, despite its interesting premise. Robinson was good, but I didn't really identify with his character. Some of the motivations fell apart under scrutiny. Regardless, it has a good feel to it, but it never really was scary, just odd. Saw on TCM. They considered it a noir, but it didn't come across as such, except for a sultry high schooler. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Suspenseful mystery with noir overtones. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member good noirish suspencer Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Effective noir with EG Robinson and Judith Anderson excellent as a brother & sister with a dark secret. Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A tad gamey but nevertheless entertaining, The Red House is an entertaining rediscovery for fans of its notable director and cast members, in this (more or less) offbeat noir. Rated: 3/5 Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Matt Brunson Creative Loafing This isn't a noir in the traditional sense, but it boasts enough ingredients to pass as one. Rated: 3/4 May 8, 2012 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid A peculiar thriller with some horror overtones. It conjures up a wholesome small town feel, complete with nosy neighbors and gossip, and an undercurrent that grows increasingly darker.
