Michael T George Raft portrays a man who struggles between doing God's will, and his own will. He wants vengeance for his brother, the murdered priest, but his brother had told him not to kill, before he died. And so George struggles between his overpowering emotion, screaming deep inside for revenge--and that quiet voice of God's will, given to him by his own dying brother--and by his girlfriend, who also insisted that he not kill. In the end, the killer is destroyed by his own evil, as George stops himself from killing the killer, in effect listening to a Power greater than himself. And so this movie displays a fascinating spiritual dilemma: act upon raw emotion for what we want to do , or listen to that quiet voice within us--and do what we need to do for ourselves--and follow God's will for us, instead. It was not God's will for George Raft to murder in revenge, as he had wanted to--and then by doing so turn himself into the same kind of murderer that he had hated. But rather, as it played out, the murderer's own evil ended up destroying him, without George Raft having to intervene--and so George chose to, and did not have to, turn to the evil, that he had so hated. A rather fascinating spiritual story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review j f Solid cinematography. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review James P Great noir cinematography.
