Adam Nayman eye WEEKLY Present-tense drama comes when one of the boys decides he wants to be a girl, a development the filmmakers mine -- responsibly but resourcefully -- for strains of significance. Rated: 3/5 Jun 19, 2007 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety Red Without Blue is an understated but compassionate account of twin brothers who struggle to define themselves in terms of individuality and sexual identity. Jan 30, 2007 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter This emotionally charged tale of identical twin brothers who make a very awkward pit-stop through puberty will fascinate and perplex. May 21, 2020 Full Review Brian Gibson Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) Novelistic in its languid twists and turns, this astounding film superimposes images and photographs, or pans across the twins' shimmering hometown lake, only to dive in between the layers, plunging into the murky depths of identity and self-reflection. Audience Member I am a Brit living in the United Kingdom and this fact should have stopped me from being able to review this film length touching Documentary. But thanks to www.snagfilms.com I saw this movie for free totally legally and I'm so glad I did as it one of the best documentaries Ive ever seen. Red without blue is simply amazing it is a heart wrenching story about two twin boys and there difficulties with there true identities. It is extremely difficult to review a movie you really like and Red without Blue falls into that category. I loved the intimate style of the film, the way it was essentially chronological but also jumped around a bit so certain facts really hit home with the audience. The fact that David is Gay and Alex (Clair is trans) is to some extent immaterial, this movie is essentially a coping with life story and one old as time that is the bond between siblings. Essentially the only thing I can find wrong with the movie is the slightly boring ending that leaves one feeling like the intense beginning has petered out. I am being really picky however especially considering it is an independent movie and I urge people to watch this and not immediately regret any prejudice they have shown to people in there own lives. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review walter m "Red without Blue" is a partially engrossing documentary about changes in life and how nothing ever turns out the way we think it will. By the time twin brothers Mark and Alex Farley have become adults, they are both out of the closet as gay men, barely surviving the macho culture of their native Missoula, Montana.(Where men are real men. Ammunition is sold at Walmart. And a stag's head welcomes visitors at the local airport.) Mark is now Oliver and living in San Francisco as an artist. Alex is now Clair, a pre-op transsexual and student living in New York, who ponders gender reassignment surgery which puts a strain on her friendship with her brother. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
