Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) A curious film that is a little conventional with its conflicts. Oct 27, 2018 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Gijs Naber carries the central role well but the role doesn't always fit with the film, which demonstrates that uncertainty of pacing and purpose all too common when an action director takes on a biopic. Paul Z The story / plot was great. Cast were good but some of the characters could have been cast slightly better, special effects, set and costumes were all amazing. I really enjoyed this movie and felt invested with King Redbad the main character. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review omid f not bad and it is clearly an underrated movie. It is a great movie about the conflicts between Christians and Pagans. I assume one of the reasons for being so underrated is because how it portrays the Christians evil times Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Truly terrible!! Why all the rave reviews is beyond me! scenery etc very good and you can tell money spent (although cavalry have six men) - but just so far fetched! He knew when an eclipse was coming - but no one else did! Rides out into the sea and the Saxons get swept away by the tide! He is captured - but he just literally gets away! Redbad was a true character but sorry, this depiction was total drivel! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Easily one of the worst movies I've seen. Only about 1/4 of the movie has anything to do with the (poorly told) story. So much of it is irrelevant, sweeping camera shots. I found myself so many times wishing the movie would just hurry up and get to the next poorly shot scene that had something to do with plot. I wish I could un-watch this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Billed as "A Frisian fights against his sworn enemy, the Lord of the Franks" so nothing to do with Vikings per se but aiming to cash in on the current mania for Viking drama. Battle scenes Ok but with over-emphasis on shield maidens. Atmospheric scenery. Dorestad was a town(s) much sought after by Franks, and about 200 years later the Danes were encouraged to make mischief around Dorestad to help the Frankish factions, but best rename the movie "Fate of the Frisians" but then most people will be looking out for cows. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I looked forward to this movie, as it deals with an important part of Dutch history and I am Dutch. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very long, boring and slow movie with bad acting of normally very good actors. Too bad, because you can see that there was a big budget fot Dutch standards. It had a lot of potential of being much more and I am afraid we will have to wait for a long time now before producers will be interested in making other big Dutch historical epics.
