      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

While it certainly has more on its mind than the average Jason Statham action thriller, Redemption doesn't quite capitalize on its premise -- or on its star's strong, committed performance.

BROUDI NOI S It's the usual "give me a job" Jason Statham flick ,but it's better than SAFE and that's more popular than this film . Jason is likable here to me ,playing the protagonist and I love the part where he was taking photographs of himself for his unforgotten daughter to see him in a suit ,really touching ,great performance by everyone in this flick ,so thumps up . Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Paula S Talk about a depressing movie! I only went to the end because I really like Jason Statham. Don't bother. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Joseph M Bad start, sooo slow, bad ending, so boring story and please, María's name in polac girl?? Just because she was a sister? And no so original with names, i mind... Jason=Joseph Statham=Smith. My god, please. Don't f*** with me. This movie is soo bad! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Gary O On the one hand it delivers the usual tough guy revenge thrills But also tries to run alongside a few meaningful personal dramas which don't quite form a coherent whole. Still it's more interesting than the usual Statham gangster movies -quite engaging and tense at times. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review T T I was expecting much better, but it was ok. Not your typical Jason Statham movie where he's just kicking butt. You get to see a different side to his acting. The overall ambience and plot is depressing and gloomy. Also, there were multiple plot holes. The ending wasn't that great either. Still though, I thought the movie was pretty watchable and decent. Deborah Ross The Spectator This is a film that wants to be more than a mindless action flick and it tries, desperately, but just can't deliver. A pity, although it does prove your first instinct was right: a British thriller starring Jason Statham is all you need to know. Sep 5, 2018 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) [A] flawed but ambitious (and rather peculiar) London-set thriller ... Jun 30, 2013 Full Review Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard It's really just an over-blown fashion shoot. Let's hope Jason got to keep the clothes. Rated: 1/5 Jun 28, 2013 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...progresses into an increasingly involving midsection anchored by Statham’s commanding, engrossing performance... Rated: 3/4 Mar 31, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review [The film is] incongruous, blending moral soul-searching with Statham’s usual martial arts-laden action. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Max Nelson Cinema Scope Redemption [is] at once so funny and so profoundly sad. Nov 14, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
