Audience Member Interesting concept. Not usual. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review ashley h Repeat Performance is a boring film. It is about Sheila Page kills her husband Barney on New Year's Eve 1946. Louis Hayward and Joan Leslie give horrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Alfred L. Werker did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Mildly entertaining melodrama that begins with a murder and immediately takes a fantastical turn as the killer is granted a wish to re-live the year that led to the crime. Joan Leslie with an excellent turn as a co-lead, but I couldn't buy Louis Hayward's performance as her boozing and unfaithful husband. Richard Basehart has a notable role supporting role. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Who on Earth gave this less than four stars? It's a real post-war sock in the face. It's often forgotten that 1946, when this film was being made, had a divorce rate in America of 43%. Incredible, but true: look it up. People were coming back from war wishing they had the prior year to live over again, if only because they felt truly alive in the prior year. I recently lost a friend who would be 97 today (12/29/2019) who told me that the two post-war years were years of unemployment, unhappiness, and unease. You can see that sort of world in this film. It's a piece of American history, with a walloping good story at that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this story and film.
