Fans of the games will have fun spotting the Easter eggs on display, but precious little else. Indeed, the chief horror here is the cliffhanger promising a third instalment. Go to Full Review

So the action — what we’re there for — is incomprehensible, and the story — what we’re not there for — even more so. Go to Full Review

It is not that the film is stereotypical, or derivative, or often difficult to swallow. The greatest offence here is that the film is boring. Go to Full Review

Thiago B Nov 30 Resident Evil: Apocalypse fails to deliver meaningful character development. Characters are introduced, yet most remain one-dimensional, existing only to drive the action forward. The protagonist, Alice, shows minimal growth, and secondary characters are killed off in predictable and anticlimactic ways. The story relies heavily on exposition, underestimating the audience's ability to follow complex plots or engage with subtle storytelling. Dialogue is stiff and often feels forced, making emotional stakes difficult to care about. Despite high-energy action sequences and visually engaging effects, the lack of moral or cognitive distinction among the survivors makes the film feel shallow. Only a few characters momentarily hint at personality, such as Jill Valentine, whose screen presence is limited, and Nemesis, whose role is more menacing than meaningful. Overall, the film prioritizes spectacle over substance. See more Ron S. Oct 15 Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine hits her character so perfectly that it steals the shows. See more Pedro Henrique C @Pedro2005 May 26 Resident Evil: Apocalypse has horrible direction and is poorly directed, but it has a charm in the action sequences that could save the film. Just its peculiar script that doesn't favor its characters. See more Ralph R Feb 3 Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) takes the franchise in a more action-heavy direction, but in doing so, it loses some of what made the first movie work. The story is straightforward and somewhat interesting, but it lacks any real depth, feeling more like an excuse to string together set pieces rather than a well-developed plot. The horror elements are almost an afterthought, making the zombies feel out of place in what plays more like an over-the-top action movie. The directing choices are questionable, with excessive shaky cam and overblown shots that make certain action scenes harder to follow. Slow motion is a nice touch, but it’s used so frequently that it feels more like a gimmick than a stylistic choice. That said, the cinematography does have its moments, particularly in a few key sequences. The introduction of Nemesis is handled well, even if his overall presence in the movie could have been stronger. Milla Jovovich remains the highlight, delivering her signature mix of badassery and effortless style while taking on enemies with superhuman agility. The script is basic, filled with cheesy dialogue that doesn't add much weight to the story. The soundtrack keeps the aggressive, industrial vibe from the first film, but the overall execution of the movie feels uneven. While it has entertaining moments, it doesn’t match the balance of action, horror, and sci-fi that made the original so engaging. It’s a fun watch if you just want mindless action, but as a follow-up to Resident Evil, it’s definitely a step down. See more Read all reviews
