Jonita Davis The Black Cape Revival offers a mixed pot of the Black traditions--Easter stage plays, theater, and gospel music--to bring audiences a story that could finally replace Charlton Heston's Moses at the feature film to watch in the weeks leading up to Easter. Rated: 3/5 Mar 28, 2020 Full Review Lauren Turner Battle Royale With Cheese Overall, this movie dives deep into Jesus' final days on this Earth, with the whole production coming together under this united goal. At times the sincerity and drama is a little too much - but it is in Jesus's name, after all. Merry Christmas everyone. Rated: 3/5 Dec 7, 2018 Full Review Lynnette Nicholas Black Girl Nerds Harry Lennix's Revival! presents a fresh and innovative take on the Gospel according to John. With a star-studded cast and the Word of God, Revival! is sure to be a good family film to watch over the holidays. Rated: 3/5 Nov 30, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

George-Michael Holy moly! I loved the songs and the art style! Truly a captivating film that is really worth several rewatches. Harry Lennix and Mali Music draw us in with their act performances. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/20 Full Review Samer W I think this film is complicated and challenging, by worth a watch by many. By and large it does hold true to the gospel narrative in the Bible - at least in broad strokes while it tries to challenge the audience with race and gender swapping, as well as moving the setting of scenes between modern day, and historical contexts. Overall, it is a well crafted movie, though stylistically it may not always be my preference - but that gets to one of the key reasons the film was created. I am a white man. The film makers explicitly share that part of the work this is meant to do is to connect black people to Jesus - to see themselves in Jesus. Screening this in an audience that was nearly 100% black, and hearing the Q&A session after - there is something about that experience that was moving to many in a way, that I can't completely understand - but I see the value in it. For the person of color who may feel separated from God, but also for the white person who has never had to feel that difference - this film has value.
