Bill T VERY loose adaptation of the classic novel by the slightly odd Finnish Director, Aki Kaurismäki. It's very interesting of what it is though. A butcher kills someone for his utter disdain for that person, and then pretty much begs people to turn him in, even though people won't or die before they can. Backed by the most hip-rock soundrack you wouldnt expect in a movie like this, but it does work, this was a fun movie since I'm quite interested in the book. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review markus m The film is overall competently made, but has unnecessary side characters that make the plot lack focus, and ultimately left yours truly feeling indifferent. 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Tuttua Kaurismäkeä. Vähäeleistä ja nokkelaa. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member An impressive first feature from an incredibly talented filmmaker--A moody, thought-provoking film!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member finnish people are crazy. i wonder how close it is to the novel.. want to read! the music though - was like it was made for this film and only this film - perfection. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Technically speaking, it's not as mature as he is now, but Kaurismaki has his own original way of looking at people and their lives already in this first feature, besides several technical trademarks of him. A bitter (but definite) ending (and what the hero says in that scene) reminds me of some great American films of 60s and 70s Hollywood Renaissance, and of course, has really big impact on me.
