Dan Klores and Ron Berger's documentary charts the rise and fall of former welterweight boxing champ Emile Griffith. Born in the Virgin Islands, Griffith moved to New York where, before becoming a boxer, he designed ladies' hats. Once inside the ring his career took off and regular boxing telecasts made him a celebrity. In a 1962 match, Griffith beat Benny "Kid" Paret to death after Paret taunted him with an anti-gay remark. Griffith's star faded and the incident ended boxing broadcasts.

Audience Member Riveting sports documentary about guilt, violence, and redemption Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member What a great documentary. One critic got it right. "A story of tolerance and forgiveness". Griffith fought hard to gain back his title and reputation. Perat struggled to support his family and his career. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member i love this movie it so good Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member A solid boxing documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member This documentary is one of the best I have seen... Very well done with good insights, not only to the specific subject matter(s), but also thoughts on the sport of boxing overall - both from the 60's (a lot of which still seem relevant today, I reckon!) and those more recently (e.g: when it was filmed!...'05'ish).. and all the other aspects this doco covers. {Way to go SBS for showing it! - more than soccer and cycling! ;)} (although don't read this particular movie info as i think it gives too much away!). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Boxing in the 60s was like F1 racing of today. This movie was an a documentary on the great boxing matches of that time and the ultimate fight between Emile Griffith and Benny *Kid* Paret.
