Tracey Petherick Common Sense Media Roald Dahl's Esio Trot has a quiet intensity, combining humor and silliness with poignancy and, occasionally, melancholy. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Prairie Miller Critical Women A decidedly daffy, rather ridiculously resplendent reptilian elder romance, don't ask. And in which Dustin Hoffman pulls off a highly peculiar Peeping Tom with enormous heart, even if on the weirdly borderline unhinged side. Dec 30, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Toby G Whilst this is not entirely faithful to the book, I am not a purist when it comes to film adaptations. This is an incontrovertibly beautiful film that brings together two perfectly cast, seasoned professionals - Dame Dench and Dusting Hoffman - as a convincingly ditsy and girlish widow and an endearingly sweet outsider. It is the perfect length with added elements that complement the original style, including the infuriating Mr. Pringle (Richard Cordery) and a slightly different approach to the ending (which I won't give away here). One more thing - the set is simple and wonderful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Audience Member What a lovely movie ! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/19 Full Review Audience Member 5.8/10, my review: http://wp.me/p1eXom-2SM Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Very Lovely movie , bit fun , bit romance ....and 101 Turtles . Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Based on an personally unfamiliar Roald Dahl novel and as expected it has a fantastic story. Mr Hoppy is a retired bachelor and madly in love with the just as old Mrs Silver. He is way too shy to just tell her and when he tries it all fall apart. Mrs Silver get's a turtle, Alfie, and she wants it to grow bigger. Good luck then, that Mr Hoppy knows an Afrikan poem that she can tell little Alfie three times a day to make him grow a whole lot. This little trick from Mr Hoppy is charming, but is it rewarding him anything? Superb acted out by Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench as the two leads. Well told by a narrator that's also taking part of the film. Neat camerawork and solid, sweet humor for all ages. This film impressed me big time - weird that it's so off the radar. One of the sweeter films I've seen I believe. 7.5 out of 10 turtles. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review nilufer e It was a lovely movie about elderly romance that I've never heard about before. Performances were sublime and the story was cute. It was also an amazing atmosphere. Quite enjoyed it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
