Libby C "Role Play" offers an intriguing premise with moments of genuine suspense and excitement. However, it suffers from occasional pacing issues and predictable plot twists. While it may not appeal to everyone, fans of psychological thrillers will find enough to enjoy in this film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review J G Not terrible, but less than the sum of its parts. No twists, and the 'payoffs' were all pretty underwhelming. Also didn't really decide what genre - is it gritty, is it silly, is it romantic, is it action. Right now it's critics at 30% and audience at 45% - that sounds just about right. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Pastor Dana D J A pair of good actors staring in a comical spy thriller. The storyline is believable if you believe in true love. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Andrei D Cuoco's considerable charm cannot save it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Jonathan H Nothing all that memorable or great to say about this movie. The initial premise was more interesting and mysterious than what transpired throughout the 2nd & 3rd acts. Fairly ridiculous and with too many unanswered questions or unknown motivations/driving forces for various characters. Performances were fine, so don't take this as a knock against the actors. Plot and screenplay just seemed very average to weak. Watch "Date Night" for a much better and funnier version of this film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Tony S It starts out fun, then turns serious and suspenseful. Too much violence to watch with the kids, but a nice weekend watch otherwise. Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) French director Thomas Vincent’s feature is lacking in laughs, a genuine marital dynamic, and decent action sequences. Jan 25, 2024 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal Like a guy at a bar telling you a very long joke. You laugh politely each time the story seems to be winding up, which it isn’t, until the fellow brings things to a close by telling you his house burned down just after he made the last mortgage payment. Jan 12, 2024 Full Review Samantha Bergeson indieWire Director Thomas Vincent plays it safe which, for an action comedy hinging on the sexy fascination of spying, makes for a flaccid film all around. Rated: C- Jan 12, 2024 Full Review Alex Hudson Exclaim! Where it truly belongs is on airplane entertainment systems, where it can help bored travellers waste a couple hours while half nodding off after a mini-sized bottle of wine. Rated: 5/10 Feb 22, 2024 Full Review Paul Salfen AMFM Magazine Critics will savage it but at-home audiences may find it a nice – if not too standout – free streaming watch during an otherwise slow release week.
