Tia B One of my all time favourite movies. It combines the lightness of a childhood in nature with serious and challenging topics, such as the tension between youre ideals and goals as an adult and the relationship with youre child aswell as the issue of loyalty to friends and family. The childlike lightness and the exploration of these more serious topics are woven together beautifully and create a relaxing, heartwarming yet also educational movie experience. The baddies are harpies, trolls, selkies(?), humans, and gnomes, but the battles are mostly offscreen. It's an okay romantic drama, but for plot see The NeverEnding Story (also from 1984). Seen the film twice and all I can say is that the magic still remains. The characters are lovable and the acting decent. It's a perfect family movie, because there's enough excitement to keep the more mature audience interested and the younger ones on the edge of their seats.
