Audience Member Yllättävän toimiva suomalainen rikoselokuva. Viihdyttä ja tunnelmallinen, toimii krapulaleffana kyl tosi hyvin. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Parasta draamaa Edelmannilta ja Franzenilta, mita olen nahnyt, eteenkin jalkimmaiselta vahva rooli mielestani, pikkuisen huumoria suomalaisittain, Paakkonen taas failaa niin kuin aina, stoori keulii hieman alussa, mutta tasoittuu kiinnostavammaksi keskivaiheilla, tietysti takalaisittain kovin alavireinen ja pain vittua meneva stoori, mutta ihan vaikuttava ja toimii... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A sympathetic if a bit safe Finnish film about a bunch of teenagers who turn from petty thieves into professional criminals. The story spans decades, fleshing out the characters along the way and reaching some high moments of quality drama. The film has an almost epic feel to it with the way it lays out the charactersâ(TM) paths. The flick is near wonderful with a good cast and a streamlined direction, but has a slightly naive and obvious approach to storytelling. And at times the plausibility is stretched with some dramatic crime movie clichà (C)s that really feel off considering the setting. The character content, warm humor and ambition shine through all the flaws though, and the movie pulls through as a winner. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Keskiverto filkka. Peter Franzen on loistava roolissaan. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Producer Markus Selin and director Aleksi Mäkelä are a landmark in Finnish cinema. They set the point where actual film-making began to take it's final gasps and be replaced by Hollywood-mocking blockbusters. Rööperi is a story of small-time organised crime in the area of Punavuori, Helsinki. It takes place in the 60's and 70's and depicts the era of racketeering illegal licquor and porno, and finally the beginning of the narcotics trading. The film is actually an interesting piece of work. Very seldom you find examples of films that suffer from both: over-length and irritating gaps and lacks in the story-telling. It generates a serious problem in drama when instead of one complete movie, the screenplay consists of three to four incomplete movies. One might loosen up and give credit to most of the cast; especially Peter Franzen and Samuli Edelmann. It is also worth mentioning that Mäkelä provides us with a couple of nice separate scenes. But that's all we have; a series of separate scenes which never really create an actual motion picture. And is it even worth mentioning? Bring your own violin and piano. You can do a play-along over the touching slow-motion flashbacks. Confused? Look up "cliché" in a dictionary.
