Anspaugh, whose Hoosiers showed he knows from feel-good movies, directs this story as if he were conducting Bolero, carefully building climax upon climax as the story spirals to an underdog triumph every bit as tearful as that of Rocky. Go to Full Review

The film is so effective because Rudy is never seen as mock-heroic, and he's never lifted toward unrealistic achievement. He simply does the very best he can. Go to Full Review

Underneath its rah-rah spirit, the PG-rated Rudy is straightforward enough to raise, albeit unintentionally, some troubling questions. Go to Full Review

Rudy is all heart, which provides a greater contrast in the face of continuing pitfalls, as well as a decent protagonist for this uplifting, encouraging tale. Go to Full Review

A great example of how "Hollywooding" something up a little can turn a fantastic true story into something that can affect the viewer even more than just the truth. These are the kinds of films that can only be done in America. Go to Full Review

A likable if rather bland underdog tale, with director David Anspaugh and screenwriter Angelo Pizzo (who both scored with 1986’s meatier Hoosiers) dutifully checking off the boxes inherent in such Americana fare. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Dec 2 Sean Astin brings the story of Rudy to life with a heartfelt, inspiring performance that makes this one of the most uplifting football films ever made. The movie dives into the world of athletes and gives anyone who feels overlooked a sense of hope and possibility. Jon Favreau is also terrific, proving once again how talented he is in every role he takes. The direction shapes Rudy’s journey into a compelling, emotional experience, pulling the audience into every struggle and triumph. The screenplay is incredibly strong, keeping viewers fully engaged from start to finish and allowing each character’s passion and drive to shine through. This film remains a powerful reminder that determination and heart can overcome even the toughest odds. For my full review, check it out on IMDb See more Blu B Oct 30 Does it tug on the heartstrings? Sure. Is it cheesy at times? Sure is. And yet is it as amazing, inspiring, and sincere as it's billed to be? You bet it is. First rate all around. It doesn't break any new ground and in the middle at times it can get a little unfocused bouncing between studies, extracurricular stuff, and football, but it does the basics of what it sets out to do so well. Does it help knowing about the history of Notre Dame College Football gonig into this? Yeah it defintely does because it doesn't explain why Notre Dame is so highly regarded. So some of that may go over someones head and football also. But the story is so simple, the message is universal, and the characters are so likeable and charming, and man that score....one of the best scores ever for a film. To say it inspires and sends this over the top is an understatement. When even Michigan, USC, and Nittany Lion fans tear up watching it you know it's something special. The ending is just big cheer also. Everyone should give this a try once. You don't have to understand football at all to get it. It's that good. See more Luke B Oct 10 I have never seen a movie that made me cry simply from finally seeing something I’d been longing for the entire film. I had never heard the story before, and this movie did a fantastic job of telling it and keeping me completely dialed in. The acting is excellent, and the score is beautiful. The joy the ending brings is truly beyond words. Overall, “Rudy” is both a favorite and a masterpiece. Its meaningful message about God’s timing and how anything is possible will leave you with a divine encounter. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jun 6 Failed in 1 hour and 53 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s the kind of film that makes you believe no matter how many obstacles you face, if you work hard enough and never give up, anything is possible. Sean Astin brings so much heart to the role, and the story is simple but powerful. It’s not about fancy plays or big wins, it’s about grit, determination, and pure passion for the game. The way the movie builds up to that final moment? Goosebumps every time. Sure, it’s a little predictable, but that’s part of the charm. Sometimes you just want a movie that reminds you why you love sports and why dreams matter. Rudy nails that perfectly. See more Read all reviews
