His other movie he scripted also based off his other book, DESPERATION ROAD, wasnt as good as this one. But def also showed promise. In this case the plot is already in the title of the novel from which the film is based, "The Fighter", and when it is not a hallucinatory ride from the subjective point of view of Jack "Butcher" Boucher's disturbed mind, it is an objective description of the circus agglomeration not of freaks but of desperate people who are born, exist and die traumatized. Depressing? Truthful. The scene in which the protagonist has a new pair of sunglasses with the price tag still attached that dangles over his nose should be considered a classic.
