In this visually and conceptually impressive film, two-bit Berlin criminal Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) delivers some smuggled loot for his boss, Ronnie (Heino Ferch), but accidentally leaves the 100,000 mark payment in a subway car. Given 20 minutes to come up with the money, he calls his girlfriend, Lola (Franka Potente), who sprints through the streets of the city to try to beg the money out of her bank manager father (Herbert Knaup) and get to Manni before he does something desperate.

Critics Consensus

More fun than a barrel of Jean-Paul Sartre, pic's energy riffs on an engaging love story and really human performances while offering a series of what-ifs and a blood-stirring soundtrack.

Xan Brooks Independent (UK) While there's much substance behind the style, its caffeine-rush rhythm sets the blood pumping. Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star Tykwer ups the adrenalin with a fast-forward technique that gives instant backgrounders on some of the people Lola flashes by. It's dizzying, almost like having your life flash before your eyes. But it's a rush, just like the movie. Rated: 4/4 Jun 21, 2024 Full Review Zachary Barnes Wall Street Journal Though it doesn’t deliver a Shyamalanian twist or create the revelatory, encompassing new world of The Matrix, it offers spare, high-velocity action with spectacular style, ornamented with ribbons of philosophical mischief. Mr. Hollywood Still is unique and enjoyable all these many years later. And it was great to see it again and in a theater. So many little things make this good that if you have not seen it you must. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Aaron C This film is still a masterpiece!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Chris Intense and not a second wasted Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Jeff As great and impactful as it was 25 years ago! There is still nothing else like Run Lola Run. A remarkable, propulsive film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review jose D My overall impression about the film Run Lola Run directed by Tom Tykwey and starring Franka Potenete. Is that it was quick to get into action. The plot of this film is that Lola needs to be in time to meet up with her boyfriend Manni on time with 100,000 marks in order to save her boyfriend. Some conflicts that the protagonists struggled with were relational conflict with Manni's problem with losing 100,000 marks Lola as 20 minutes to save him testing their loyalty for each other. Some camera techniques that were used in this film were rapid cuts and zooms to create urgency and mirror Lola's expressions. The "do over" effect emphasizes how mirror decisions or random encounters can lead to wildly different futures, reinforcing the idea that life is a game of chance and choice. This film was an effective thriller because it has pacing and tension. The quality of this film overall was standing out from any other film I've watched. I would definitely recommend watching this film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/25/25 Full Review Azulita G The movie Run Lola Run, Director Tom Tykwer and starring Franka Potente, made me feel a little curious what will happen in the second and third restart 20 minutes of the day. The conflict Lola struggled with was getting the money so Ronnie won't do anything to Manny. The camera techniques were great must've been tiring for the camera man to keep up with all the running. It gave the butterfly effect, everything turns out different because of that little thing you did or not do. Me myself didn't really like the movie but it's not bad, I really don't like things repeating its self and I didn't understand the language and I was not too fast reading the subtitles, but if you like watching thriller movies and understand germen I do recommend you watch it.
