While sailing in Australia, young Rebecca Ann Porter (Simone Buchanan) loses control of her boat and ends up moored on a small island. There, she meets Manuel Cortes (Henri Szeps), a South American political refugee afraid of being deported back to his dictatorship-controlled homeland. Fearing she will inform the authorities of his whereabouts, Manuel takes her hostage. An infuriated Rebecca plans many escape attempts, but her initial hostility soon develops into a friendship with Manuel.
