Luke Buckmaster Guardian Despite being steeped in familiar elements, this is a very charming, heartwarming film. Throughout the runtime I could feel my mouth forming a big silly grin. Rated: 4/5 Sep 23, 2024 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian This is a wonderful, uplifting film based on a big-hearted novel by one of Australia’s most gifted writers. It’s about love, friendship, kindness, pride and hope. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 20, 2024 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz A delightful tale of dogged determination, dastardly behaviour and the odd minor disaster, Runt's girl-and-her-canine-companion not only win the hearts of two nations, but also cinema-going audiences of all ages. Rated: 4/5 Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com In what is shaping up as one of the sorriest years for Australian cinema in recent memory, it’s pleasing to see a local film that actually has some idea about what it’s doing and who it’s for. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Stephen A. Russell ScreenHub The Shearers are magnificent company and Runt zips along at a rollicking pace – both pawsome actor Squid, and the film he steals like butcher’s sausages. Sep 24, 2024 Full Review Cris Kennedy Inner East Review It takes some embracing as an audience, accepting this isn't realism but something a bit more theatrical, a bit more children's picture book. If you can't do that, then you're not going to be a fan, but then, this film probably hasn't been made for you. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I really enjoyed this Australian movie, the quintessential Aussie battler family story. Very sweet partnership of Annie Shearer and Runt the extremely fast canine albeit nervous in front of a crowd. A great Aussie cast with Lily LaTorre perfect as Annie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Effie H Boring as, felt like an ad, I've seen more interesting stuff in the newspaper. Makes all Australians look like outback poor folks Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Peter G There were a couple of early references to old - but real businesses. When the runt stole sausages, the butcher's name was "Grubb". There was a long-standing butcher's "W.A. Grubb & Co" at 145 George St Sydney - photo here https://rocksdiscoverymuseum.com/place/145-george-street There also seemed a reference to "golden fleece" - formerly a well-known petrol company. Though the area in WA was clearly a wheat-growing one. I also marvelled at being able to get hold of a VW utiliy with a back seat and double doors. There otherwise didn't seem any CGI (I hoped). You can be proud of the film, people of York. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Scott G There are certainly some warm and enjoyable moments in the movie, but not enough of them to save it from a very average ending. Some of the characters were over-the-top caricatures, while others seemed more grounded, interesting, and relatable. The way the stroy wraps up is unexpected and not at all satisfying, and the movie unnecessarily introduces inappropriate themes for a kid's movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Suzie B Love the book, love the movie. Light, wholesome and good for a laugh. The whole family enjoyed Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Jay H After my son and I loved the book, we were excited to see the movie adaptation and it did not disappoint. Such a wholesome, enjoyable watch, with a very well chosen cast. I even surprised myself at one point by crying unexpectedly (despite trying not too!).
