Critics Consensus

An unoriginal and only occasionally funny family road-trip movie, RV is a mediocre effort that not even the charisma of Robin Williams can save.

Tim Grierson Screen International A disappointment for both Robin Williams and Men In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld, this vacation-from-hell plotline quickly grows tedious Jul 23, 2008 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine Williams' virtuoso hijinking and Daniels' Huggy Bearish bonhomie save this from complete ignominy, but we've seen it all before. Rated: 2/5 Jul 1, 2006 Full Review Trevor Johnston Time Out Not unbearably terrible, just thoroughly mediocre. Jun 8, 2006 Full Review Beatriz Maldivia Espinof It is not worth it, not even as entertainment. Nov 9, 2019 Full Review Mattie Lucas The Dispatch (Lexington, NC) Relies far too heavily on running jokes that run on for far too long and very little on the effortless charm of its stars. Rick S I have not seen a movie comedy with a fairly well developed storyline for quite sometime. Most of the newer movies the comic materials seem forced and incredulous but RV has tapped into some really down to earth relatable and hilarious stuff that comes with a long family road trip with teens and other folks. Definitely underrated but then again Rotten Tomatoes tend to miss lots of marks for me on movie reviews. Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges were perfectly cast for the roles. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review James E Cute movie with Robin Williams to add to the charm. Very middle of the road family story with funny enough jokes to keep your attention. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Audience Member The critics and audiences need to get their heads out of their asses. This movie was hilarious! Robin Williams and his family were so funny. White boys make some noise! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review William B I loved this movie when I was a kid, due for a rewatch soon Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Michael V On a family vacation, no one can hear you scream. RV (also known as RV - Runaway Vacation or Runaway Vacation) is a 2006 road comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld 🚗 Not bad, but not my favourite either 😐 Meh, it passed the time. Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 There are some funny scenes… Climbing aboard their mammoth recreational vehicle for a cross-country road trip to the Colorado Rockies, the Munro family – led by dysfunctional patriarch, Bob – prepares for the adventure of a lifetime. But spending two weeks together in one seriously small space has a way of cramping their style. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Scott U Not a great movie, comedy was way over the top, jokes are less funny when you are getting punched in the face with them. Robin Williams does his best with this script, but unless you are a 6 year old boy or love this style of comedy you will probably be disappointed.
