RZA'S ONE SPOON OF CHOCOLATE follows Unique (Shameik Moore, "Dope" and voice of Miles Morales in the Spider-Verse films), a veteran and ex-convict seeking a fresh start in a small town. After an altercation with a gang of locals, he starts to suspect they may have something to do with the disappearance of young men in the area -- including his cousin. As he digs for the truth, he finds himself the target of not only the gang, but the local sheriff's office, whose involvement in the disappearances may be even more sinister. Instead of waiting for his turn to be picked off, Unique and those closest to him (Paris Jackson, RJ Cyler) decide to fight back in this sharply satirical and stylish action thriller from the visionary leader of the Wu-Tang Clan.

One Spoon of Chocolate looks hard at America’s racist past and present, but without the ingenuity or steely nerve of the Wu’s finest moments. Go to Full Review

So what if it could be a little shorter? The length of the journey makes RZA’s destination more meaningful. Go to Full Review

Thankfully, some climactic fight scenes, featuring strong action choreography and a clear overall presentation, give 'One Spoon of Chocolate' the great emotional release it needs after so much dramatic buildup. Go to Full Review

A gritty, satisfying throwback revenge film that calls to mind the raw genre movies of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. It knows exactly what kind of experience it’s delivering, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it play out. Go to Full Review

With One Spoon of Chocolate, The RZA at least has some clue where the train is headed... Sadly, the vision hasn’t coalesced. We are left, in the end, with less than a spoon’s worth. Go to Full Review

Daniel H 3d Just from the trailer, I had pegged this film as "Get Out" meets Bourne Identity—though I admit I never watched the Bourne films in full. Still, that was my vibe. So I rounded up a couple of my friends, and we had to trek outside Chicago to even see it. Ill say it—this film wasnt playing in the city (except for the Pop-up Screening RZA did in Chicago weeks before), and I know exactly why..! This is the type of film they're afraid to show in a city like Chicago. We hit a 10:15 p.m. showing (I think the film was close to two hours), got home super late, and I had school the next day. Worth it? Absolutely and Id do it again..! The themes hit a chord in so many different ways and this is why I'm writing this review. I feel like more people need to go and see this film. Definitely not to be written off and one for those that like to go deeper than surface level. This will surely become a part of my Special Films Collection. I didn't want it to end & I felt like it could have kept going, but I'll get into that A good film & watch with layers & a powerful message. Based on real events, this movie hit home in so many aspects. Its been a while since Ive actually yelled & jumped out of my seat..! Shameik Moore (the lead) owned this role and absolutely slays it..! Blair Underwood brought a genuine, convincing presence & some of the villains play their roles so good, its hard not to see them like that & it leaves with you off screen..! A Great cast with Riveting Action..!!! Action that isnt just fast-paced but gripping & pulls you deep into the story right away, keeping you anticipating & on the edge of your seat in suspense & emotion. The cinematography was on point, with some great shots, and the soundtrack hit hard—at times, where I really felt like I was there in the scenes, from being immersed in the original scores to singing & spitting the lyrics. But I wanted more. More side stories. More backstories. And I wanted to see the hood stand up. You had these antagonists rolling into neighborhoods, and no one reacting..! In reality? Nah, we know how that would go down. I wanted justice. I wanted to see that town get busted, the system held accountable. Unique, Shameiks character, represented in a real powerful way, but I wanted more people standing with him. In the end, I was left feeling like the film pushed Hard in some areas & played it Safe in others. Maybe so it could even still be shown in theaters. But Ill say this: Its a film worth seeing. Id watch it again, and I hope others do, too. Would Love to see an uncut version & any deleted scenes. I didn't want it to end, I probably could have gotten (at least) a good 30-35 minutes more out of this film or even Extras after the Credits and would have thoroughly enjoyed that. I was so into it, it Felt like the time just flew..!!! Oh, and while watching, I thought, is that Michael Jacksons daughter? Turns out, yes—Paris Jackson is in it. That was a cool surprise in a film thats absolutely worth seeing..! See more Candice 3d This movie was trash. Walked out before it finished. See more Elise May 11 Enjoyable revenge thriller. Good needle drops, definite and vivid visual style, and effective fight sequences. I was reminded of the vigilante films of the 1970s but with an actual perspective and social grounding. There's a lot of reality to the racialized anxieties and horrors of this film. Was unaware Tarantino was attached as producer until I got to the theater (ugghhh). I'm interested in where RZA goes next. See more Skoyia May 10 I enjoyed the entire movie. Everything from the story line, musical score, mixed martial arts, and of course The RZA did his big one as a director with this film. I have also learned that this film was in fact insipired by his late cousin OBD✨️🙏🏾. This is film is a must see. See more aaron May 9 Very intense! Loved it! See more Mr Hollywood May 8 Ends up being a dud. Starts out decent enough. Once it gets to the revenge it falls flat, doesn’t know how to end it. Ended up being pointless. The villains are just villains nothing more, they are boring. See more Read all reviews
