Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 2/5 Sep 14, 2005 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews In the realm of straight-to-video horror, you could certainly do worse than Sabretooth. The film would probably best be enjoyed among friends, with copious amounts of booze handy. Landon M First off, is this movie well acted?... No. Are the creature effects top notch?.... No. So Why 5 Stars? Let me explain. Back when I was a kid, I watched this movie on Syfy channel (then Sci-fi). To me this movie was Jurassic Park Level entertainment. I was just a kid, so poor CGI was still fascinating to me. Now being 30 years old, I revisited the movie. The puppet effects were very well done (reminded me of the snake effects from KING COBRA... put a little better). I read that they wanted to mix puppet effects with CG, but instead it came off comical. When the puppet effects are at work, it is actually really cool and frightening. You feel the sabretooth is really there and I wish they did this through out the whole movie. There is a shot of the sabretooth puppet walking through the tall grass that was the coolest movie shot I have ever seen in a creature feature, which gets quickly ruined by the cgi of it running after the teens (who clearly are not teens at all). The story on paper would had made a fantastic movie. I liked the lion hunter as the main character, and the ending was cool tying everything up nicely. The movie script with better acting and a better budget, this movie would had been awesome. And the fact that Hollywood can't do movies like this is beyond me. This movie had a better story than most movies today, but just didn't have the budget to show for it. Yes it is cheesy, but even with it being a bad movie, it still had more heart than most movies today. When you watch a old Sci-fi movie and find it more entertaining than a big budget "The Meg 2"...... something is wrong with movies today. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review Audience Member An expected shoddy creature feature that thrives on being lazy with its premise and concepts, hardly providing something watchable. It's also quite obvious that the hidden nature of the beast was not an aesthetic choice, but rather a money-saving one. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Very very bad movie, don't waste your time on it, so cheap and cheesy, bad effects, nothing good about it at all! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Sabretooth is like Jurassic Park and Friday the 13th had a low budget creature feature love child. It's predictable and cliche, but it has some humor to it and the effects are goofy to look at. Josh Holloway pops up pre-LOST to be the hero of the day and he's likable enough. Pros: David Keith and John Rhys Davies, the practical effects aren't that bad, ok acting, some good humor Cons: Bad CG, predictable, never really goes for anything outlandish and settles for average in terms of story or kills Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member This weeks movie review one for Monday October 17 2011 until Sunday October 23 2011 is Sabretooth. This was ok. A small cast but it was good. Vanessa Angel, John Rhys-Davies and David Keith is in this movie. I give this movie two thumbs in the middle. 3 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining, but pretty formulaic.
