Ranger Gene Autry (Gene Autry) and his partner, Frog (Smiley Burnette), masquerade as entertainers on the trail while searching for the killer of an old man who found a gold mine. The victim's will reveals he's left his estate to his granddaughter, Joan (Barbara Pepper), and $5,000 to her Uncle John (Frank Glendon). Suspicious of Gene and Frog when they arrive in town, John and Joan set a trap to lure the singers to them. The tables are turned, however, when there is an attempt on Joan's life.
