Sally explores the life and legacy of astronaut Dr. Sally Ride, who became the first American woman to blast off into space and forever changed the course of science, exploration, and women's empowerment. But as she flew into orbit, Ride faced the challenges of institutional critics and the prejudice of an American public who were skeptical that a woman could do the job of an astronaut. Undeterred, Ride dove headfirst into that struggle, propelled by a determination few could match. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, Sally also chronicles the 27-year romance with life partner Tam O'Shaughnessy, which was kept secret from the public until the day of Ride's death.

Megan K Inspiring for female aviators everywhere! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Jen R An important story to tell and an interesting and inspiring documentary. At one point Tam mentioned that she and Sally talked about getting married and she must have meant under state or local law — same sex marriage was not legalized across the US until the Obergefell decision in 2015, more than two years after Sally’s death. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Teresa M Very good documentary that details the history of the first American woman in space. Really interesting documentary about Sally Ride and the challenging times of being a woman in a “man’s job”. I lived in Houston and remember.
