Audience Member Quel dommage! This should've been funnier if not for the abrupt lip-syncs. My favourite French pseudo-musical is still Modern Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF-tczy7jOo). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member "parole parole parole..." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The ideas of Alain Resnais are amazing, but unfortunately, his lack of ability to develop these ideas onto the screen in On Connait La Chanson fall short of the full potential the film could have reached. The incorporation of the famous and olden time songs take viewers by surprise, and give you a few good laughs. The interweaving subplots are almost as confusing as some episodes of Lost: Season 5, but nonetheless, it is a film that is great for passing valuable time in a boring french class. Richard Brody New Yorker For all the expert interweaving of characters, plots, fantasies, and problems, the over-all impression is of a present tense that, in its febrile frivolity, is hardly a smudge on the heroic, turbulent, and bloody past. Jun 7, 2021 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader A comedy about real estate and class differences, this was the biggest hit of Resnais' career in France, superbly capturing Paris in the 90s. May 8, 2014 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle A tired tune, conducted by a maestro who appears to be tone-deaf.
