Inspired by Captain Gopinath's book 'Simplifly' and multiple other true stories from the world of entrepreneurship and aviation, Sarfira tells the story of Vir Jagannath Mhatre, the son of a teacher in rural Maharashtra who sets out to achieve the impossible -- making the common man fly. By defying all odds and persistently pursuing his vision, Vir takes on the most capital-intensive industry in the world and revolutionizes air travel in India with the help of his family, friends and sheer will power. This is a uniquely Indian story of grit, determination and Jugaad, of an underdog challenging the socio-economic fabric of a system entrenched in class, caste and power dynamics.

This is what happens when the film is mainly interested in fronting its hero. It isn’t as if Akshay Kumar, who is in practically every frame of the film, is actively terrible, but there really isn’t a single thing he does here that he hasn’t done before.
