lovro h A surprisingly well made horror movie with a highly noticeable low budget, but it's not low on scares. Escalofrio, or Satan's Blood, follows a married couple who is expecting a baby. It's just a normal day in their lives, when all of a sudden they run into someone who claims to be the husband's old friend and his wife. The 'friends' invite them over for dinner, but the problem is that the husband knows not who this supposed friend is and he's very doubtful, but decides to go with him anyway. Upon arrival at their 'friend's' house, things start to get weird as they 'friends' are very interested in the dark arts (satanism, to be exact) and make them try out the Ouija board and stuff like that. I will not go any further into the plot as it would include spoilers and you can also probably guess what might happen. The acting in the movie was okay, though I watched the English dubbed version, so the lines that were spoken, were spoken probably differently than in the original Spanish version. The characters aren't really deeply developed or interesting, but the 'friends' can get very creepy with their performance and display of characters. There isn't any gore or violence in this movie, really. There are a few scenes, but the violence happens off-screen and the blood amount is extremely low. That didn't bother me, but at times it looked cringeworthy. The music in the movie is fitting for the genre and the sound editing in this dubbed version was a bit off, but then again, it's dubbed. The look of the movie is great and the set pieces are very atmospheric. It gives you quite a creepy feeling whilst watching. There are also quite a few memorable scenes which will probably stick with you for a while after finishing the movie. The ending is great! I loved how it ended. I certainly won't spoil that, but I will say that it's quite bold. All in all, a very intriguing and interesting horror movie with some acting and line delivery flaws, but it delivers as a horror movie. I would recommend this movie to horror fans only. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A young couple go for a drive and meet up with a couple who claim to know the husband, then are invited to their home, which turns out to be a remote villa where things get really strange. As the night wears on they are trapped by a storm, and some Ouija board session really kicks off the weirdness and Satanism. Very nice little surprise, worth a rental at the very least.
