See more Dave S 10/24/2024 In Satellite in the Sky, there is excitement in the air as the first manned spacecraft prepares for launching. However, things take an ominous turn when the crew are advised at the last minute that they will be transporting an atomic-like bomb into space and will be responsible for detonating it in an effort to warn countries around the world of the dangers of atomic warfare. Compared to other sci-fi films of the ‘50s, Satellite in the Sky holds up favorably. The Cinemascope looks good, the production values are decent, and the special effects are often respectable. Unfortunately, the first half of the movie is preoccupied with mundane issues like interpersonal problems and marriage proposals, while the second half, once an issue arises regarding unloading the bomb, seems a bit trivial as the crew seem more preoccupied with serving coffee and sandwiches than mulling over their seemingly impending demise. See more georgan g 08/29/2022 Watching sci fi from this era and this was on a double feature dvd. As usual, mostly male cast with lone female having to serve coffee & fight for her dignity. Watched it for special effects by "Wally" Veevers (soon of 2001: A Space Odyssey). See more 02/08/2013 Well that was one abrupt ending. Pretty good little 50s foray into space anyway.
