The central thrust of this graphic French drama may be a radical notion to some: that a sex worker can enjoy the wild, carnal freedom that his or her job can provide, while also being vulnerable to its dangers. Go to Full Review

What's the old saw about war? That it's long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror? Tweaked a little, the line serves pretty well as a description of Sauvage. All that's required is the addition of "and/or emotion" at the end. Go to Full Review

By the end, we've experienced one of the best films about street hustling ever made. Go to Full Review

Sauvage is a film that could have been exploitive and melodramatic, but Vidal-Naquet’s direction and his script, helps keep the film grounded in a sense of realism. Go to Full Review
Steve Cruz OUT FRONT Magazine (Denver) 05/09/2023
This film is an observational visit during which Vidal-Naquet achieves an amazing feat: he makes palpable the phenomenal boredom that weighs on street hustlers, but it’s never monotonous for the audience. Go to Full Review

Provocative, tender and moving, this is a profoundly human portrait of an occupation that society considers dehumanising. Go to Full Review

A non-judgmental film with great acting by the main lead, Félix Maritaud. Despite some shocking wild scenes and explicit sex, it is a character for which basic instincts for survival are essential and the movie makes you care for the main character and wish he would stop suffering so much of hunger, homelessness and a sad lack of affection. See more nilufer e @Nilicim 04/22/2021 French gay porn; that was a first for me. I had this movie for so long and I don't even know why. And the ratings are high for no reason, like; the 'amazing' acting or the 'unusual' plot?! See more 03/03/2021 Great movie, one of the best French movies I have seen for ages. Very truthful and to the point. Gutsy film making. The main actor is outstanding. Recommended. See more dave d 08/27/2020 'Sauvage' is a queer cinema masterpiece, until a third act blunder nearly completely ruins the movie. This feels real until a decision made by our central character goes against everything we learned. This is a bit hardcore about one particular male prostitute who's looking for love in all the wrong places. Is this worth seeing? For sure! Will you be frustrated by the ending? Up to you! Final Score: 6.4/10 See more 04/25/2020 Too fragmented, it spends a lot of time going nowhere. It could have been 22mins long.
